HOW To Stand Your Dog

Standing a Large Breed of Dog

Once you have the dog Standing with it's feet in the required position, you will need to either stand or kneel back on one knee to display your dog. Stand or kneel behind your dog, whilst holding your dog's head firmly but gently in position with your right hand. TailPosition. Please refer to the enclosed picture of your breed in a stand position to help illustrate the required Stand position for a Breed. Standing a dog can make you feel very awkward at first. You will need to be thinking about what you need to do as well as trying to get your dog to do what it should be doing. You will probably worry that you haven't got it right when you are in the ring. Once you have set up your dog (Stood your dog) as near as possible to the ideal Stand position, try to avoid the impulse to fiddle with your dog once the Judge is looking in your direction. You will only need to rearrange your dog if it moves sufficiently as to break the Stand position completely. With plenty of practice Standing will become second nature to you and your dog. This will leave you free to worry about what the Judge is doing and thinking when you are in the ring.
